The kitchen and living room were confined, making entertaining difficult, and the property lacked a second full bathroom—an essential upgrade for modern city living.
 
Additionally, outdated fixtures, poor ventilation, and insufficient storage posed practical challenges that needed careful resolution. The owners sought a timeless design that would endure both in aesthetics and functionality, ensuring their home remained effortlessly elegant for years to come.

The Transformation

To unlock the flat’s full potential, Sense & Solace implemented a meticulous redesign that balanced modern functionality with heritage elegance. The most transformative decision was removing the wall between the kitchen and living room, flooding the space with natural light and creating an expansive, social heart of the home. This open-plan area now seamlessly blends refined entertaining with everyday living, a perfect harmony of form and function.
 
Internally, strategic structural changes were made to enhance efficiency. A formerly underutilised toilet and part of a bedroom were reimagined to create a dedicated utility space—an essential feature for contemporary urban living. Additionally, a new full bathroom was introduced where only a shower had existed before, significantly improving comfort and practicality.
 
A refined palette of muted, calming tones was chosen for the interior, fostering an atmosphere of quiet luxury. Whitewashed wooden floorboards were installed throughout, enhancing the sense of space and reflecting the abundant natural light. Period details were thoughtfully reinstated, with chair rails and coving accentuating the grandeur of the original architecture.
