about sense & solace

Sense & Solace is for people whose homes haven't quite caught up with their lives.
We're the studio behind Living Order: the idea that a home works when everything in it has earned its place. We work with clients directly in London, Lisbon and Stockholm, and — since good design travels — everywhere else, online.

"A home should make sense of the world, and offer solace from it."

A Point of View on Home Design

A home should feel beautiful, but it should also feel honest, settled and easy to inhabit. The most successful interiors aren't overly arranged or built for display — they're the rooms that support real life gracefully: places to rest, gather, host, retreat.

And that doesn't mean white walls and empty surfaces. Restraint is a choice, not an absence of ideas — a room can be spare and still feel like someone lives there.

How Involved Do You Want to Be?

Some clients want a thought partner for a handful of decisions. Others want to hand over the whole project and see it at the reveal. Both are welcome here: the process flexes to how involved you want to be, not the other way round. What doesn't change is the standard: clear guidance, no surprises, and a designer who tells you what something costs before you have to ask.

Therese Borglund Santos

Founder and Lead Designer

Therese drew her first floor plan at seven, and never really stopped rearranging rooms in her head. She spent years in international law and finance instead — good work, golden handcuffs — while design stayed the thing she did anyway, for herself, and for friends who made the mistake of asking her opinion. Wherever she's lived, people have said the same thing about her home: that it simply felt right the moment they walked in.

A move to a new country finally ended the corporate chapter. What came with her wasn't nothing — the process discipline, the project management, the instinct for catching a problem early — just now aimed at something better than a quarterly report. Sense & Solace is that eye for a room, finally allowed to be the whole job.

Therese leads Sense & Solace from Lisbon, working with clients across Europe and remotely worldwide.

A Considered Home

A considered home isn't about excess. It's about discernment — knowing what to keep, what to soften, what to leave beautifully simple, and which choices will still feel right in ten years.
